Project Description
The Franklin Mountain Visitor Center consists of two buildings totaling 9,000 square feet that include visitor parking, amphitheater, nature viewing areas, water features, fire features, exposed color concrete slab, exposed wood structure, extensive native landscaping and a septic tank system complete with a leech field in order to accomodate utilities at the project site. This project also features a rainwater harvesting system to supply the fire sprinklers in the building.
Concept
The concept for the visitor’s center was to take advantage of the mountain views using full height windows from the registration and sales sides, as well as having a dedicated indoor and outdoor Interpretive Education Facility. A regionally appropriate architectural style was chosen to not distract from the natural setting.
