Concept Description
The Armijo branch library is a symbolic building to the “Segundo Barrio” a low income , predominantly Hispanic community. The addition kept the autonomous Carnagie design while preserving, protecting the iconic mural of the “Aztec Warrior” while maintaining a prominent view through the large transparent glazing. It was necessary for the new addition to relate to the existing building by maintaining the existing design while adding a new view and design. By incorporating the existing structure masses, size and proportions, colors, textures, and materials, the design team was able to accommodate and maintain a seamless transition from the original facade to the new addition.
